HEAL CHICAGO PHILOSOPHY

HEAL CHICAGO PHILOSOPHY

A Note from Executive Director Jeanne McInerney

Heal Chicago originated as an anti racism, community based organization conducting workshops for church groups, police and fire departments, civic employees, high school students, and neighbors. The impact on communities and individuals has been great and continues to contribute to many friendships and alliances that might not have occurred organically.

The political divide in our country has once again allowed for overt racism to rear it’s ugly head. Fear and violence is spreading and people are again isolating themselves in their segregated neighborhoods and friendship groups.

In 2017, Heal Chicago was tapped to write a program to help Chicagoans build personal resilience and come together as one city.

Racism is an uncomfortable topic, yet the price we all pay is no longer acceptable. The costs are enormous, billions of dollars, lost lives, talent that is never maximized, mental health, addiction issues, and so much more.

The Heal Chicago program is not a ‘quick fix’. To understand ourselves in the context of our time and place takes commitment and time.

Please consider joining the conversation.

The time is now for cities, neighborhoods, businesses and leadership to step up to change.

When we know each other’s story it is incredibly hard to marginalize or dehumanize people from backgrounds not our own.
